Hi! Nice to meet you.

I’m Ben Derico— a journalist and documentarian in San Francisco. I currently work as a Video Journalist & Producer with BBC News where I focus on stories at the intersection of Art and Technology. I’ve also produced for CNN, The Washington Post, and Público, Portugal’s largest newspaper, amongst others.

I started almost a decade ago as a producer in Chicago creating commercials. In 2014 I opened Sidekick, my commercial studio, where I created ad campaigns and branded documentaries with agencies like Leo Burnett, BBDO, and IDEO, as well as brands like Apple and Google.

In 2022, I completed my master’s at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism with my thesis documentary Hasta la última gota, a film following the fight for water and a new constitution in Chile. The film was published in The Intercept and was screened at the Mill Valley Film Festival and Banff Mountain Film Festival.

I work in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
